Tao Te Ching · Ch. 73
勇於敢則殺,勇於不敢則活。此兩者,或利或害。天之所惡,孰知其故?是以聖人猶難之。天之道,不爭而善勝,不言而善應,不召而自來,繟然而善謀。天網恢恢,疏而不失。
Yǒng yú gǎn zé shā, yǒng yú bù gǎn zé huó. Cǐ liǎng zhě, huò lì huò hài. Tiān zhī suǒ wù, shú zhī qí gù? Shì yǐ shèng rén yóu nán zhī. Tiān zhī dào, bù zhēng ér shàn shèng, bù yán ér shàn yìng, bù zhào ér zì lái, chǎn rán ér shàn móu. Tiān wǎng huī huī, shū ér bù shī.
Boldness in daring leads to death; boldness in not daring leads to life. Of these two, one is beneficial and one is harmful. Who knows why Heaven dislikes what it dislikes? Even the sage finds this difficult. The way of Heaven does not contend, yet it excels at winning; does not speak, yet it excels at responding; is not summoned, yet it comes of its own accord; acts unhurried, yet its plans are excellent. Heaven's net is vast and wide-meshed, yet nothing slips through.
