Tao Te Ching · Ch. 5

天地不仁,以萬物為芻狗;聖人不仁,以百姓為芻狗。天地之間,其猶橐籥乎?虛而不屈,動而愈出。多言數窮,不如守中。

Tiān dì bù rén, yǐ wàn wù wéi chú gǒu; Shèng rén bù rén, yǐ bǎi xìng wéi chú gǒu. Tiān dì zhī jiān, qí yóu tuó yuè hū? Xū ér bù qū, dòng ér yù chū. Duō yán shuò qióng, bù rú shǒu zhōng.

Heaven and earth are not partial — they treat all things as straw dogs. The sage is not partial — he treats all people as straw dogs. The space between heaven and earth is like a bellows: empty, yet it never collapses; move it and more always comes out. Many words lead to exhaustion; better to hold to the center.
