What kind of door is that, what kind of house, where You sit and care for all? Countless instruments sound there, countless players. Countless musical modes (ragas) with their consort melodies, countless singers. Wind, water, and fire sing to You — Dharmaraj sings at the door. The scribes Chit and Gupta sing, who know how to write, and after writing, Dharma judges. Shiva, Brahma, and the Goddess sing — ever beautiful, ever arrayed. Indra sings, seated on his throne, with all the gods at his door. Siddhas sing in samadhi; the saintly sing in contemplation. The celibate, the truth-firm, the content sing — and the mighty warriors sing too. Pandits and venerable sages sing through every age, with the Vedas alongside. Bewitching maidens sing, bewitching the mind — in heaven, on earth, in the nether-realms. The jewels of Your creation sing, with the 68 sacred pilgrimage sites. Mighty warrior-heroes sing, and the four sources of life sing. Continents, solar systems, galaxies — all that You have placed in order — sing. Only those sing to You who please You; Your devotees, immersed and full of nectar. Many others sing — but they do not come to my mind — what reflection can Nanak make? That One alone forever, the True Lord, true and true the Name. He is and He shall be; He neither came nor will go — the One who fashioned creation. Of countless colors, kinds, and types, He has fashioned Maya. Having made, He watches what He has made, as His greatness requires. What pleases Him, that He does — no order can be placed upon Him. He is the King of kings, the Emperor of emperors — Nanak's place is to abide in His Will.
