Japji Sahib · Pauri 26

Bahutaa karam likhi-aa naa jaa-ay. Vadaa daataa til na tamaa-ay. Kaytay mangahi jodh apaar. Kayti-aa ganat nahee veechaar. Kaytay khap tutahi vaykaar. Kaytay lai lai mukar paahi. Kaytay moorakh khaahee khaahi. Kayti-aa dookh bhookh sad maar. Ayhi bhi daat tayree daataar. Band khalaasee bhaanai ho-ay. Hor aakh na sakai ko-ay. Jay ko khaa-ik aakhan paa-ay. Oh jaanai jaytee-aa muhi khaa-ay. Aapay jaanai aapay day-ay. Aakhahi se bhi kay-ee kay-ay. Jis no bakhsay sifat saalaah. Nanak paatisaahee paatisaahu.

His great grace cannot be written. The Great Giver holds back not a sesame seed's greed. Countless mighty warriors beg from Him; countless who cannot even be counted. Countless are spent and broken in vice. Countless take and then deny. Countless fools just keep on eating. Countless are struck by pain and hunger forever. Even these — Giver — are Your gifts. Release from bondage comes by Your Will alone; no one can say otherwise. If any empty fool tries to claim otherwise, he will learn how many blows fall on his face. He Himself knows; He Himself gives. Few — very few — speak this. Whoever You bless with the capacity to praise — Nanak says — that one is the King of kings.
