Dhammapada · 1.17

Idha tappati pecca tappati, pāpakārī ubhayattha tappati;'Pāpaṃ me katan'ti tappati, bhiyyo tappati duggatiṃ gato.

Idha tappati pecca tappati, papakari ubhayattha tappati; 'Papam me katan'ti tappati, bhiyyo tappati duggatim gato.

The evildoer is tormented here and tormented hereafter; in both worlds he is tormented. 'I have done evil' — thus he is tormented; and even more so when gone to a bad rebirth.
